Mangalore, Dec 18: The city-based Vishwas Trust organized Christmas celebrations at Valencia Day Centre for the senior citizens in the city on Friday December 17.
The place was decorated with crib and Christmas tree and other decorative items, providing an atmosphere of festive fervour and celebration to the elderly citizens. The senior citizens took part in the proceedings with lot of enthusiasm. Over a hundred elderly people from Valencia, Bejai and Jeppu, Bajal areas participated.
Programme began with Christmas carrols followed by prayer song. The master of ceremonies, Treeza and Catherine, MSW students from St Aloysius College placed at Vishwas for field work compered the programe. Importance of Christmas was given by Jacinta Machado, social worker of Vishwas Trust.
Ganesh MSW student of Meridian College placed at Vishwas welcomed the gathering. Special attraction of the programme was Santa Clause entertained the gathering which was full of fun.
A skit was staged by St Agnes Special Educational trainees which enlivened the programme. Christmas message was delivered by Prof Maria D’Costa, retired head of the department of english from Roshni Nilaya, and also active volunteer of Vishiwas Trust. She enthused the senior citizens to lead happy and meaningful life despite their age and health condition.
Christmas Carols too were sung. The programme was followed by spot games, mono act singing and bingo (housie-housie).
The vote of thanks was proposed by Felcy Pinto, secretary, Vishwas.
