Udupi: Dr V S Acharya Releases BJP’s Election Manifesto for ZP, TP Polls

Udupi, Dec 18: “Despite the politically motivated allegations of JD(S) and Congress parties, BJP will succeed in getting maximum seats in the forthcoming elections for both zilla panchayat and taluk
panchayat,” said district in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya.

He was speaking during the release of the BJP’s election manifesto at the party office here on Friday December 17. Dr Acharya added that the party aims to better empower taluk and zilla panchayats.

“The village councils will be vested with major powers in a restructuring move by incorporating the reports of the Third Finance Commission led by its chairman A G Kodgi,” added Dr Acharya.

“More financial assistance will be provided to the village councils and more powers will be vested with the zilla and taluk panchyats through necessary amendments to the said Acts. More emphasis will be laid on
supplying electricity to many villages under Kuteera Jyothi project,” he emphasized.

“The ongoing construction work on the district headquarters will be completed at the earliest. A proposal has been placed before chief minister Yeddyurappa to release Rs 7.65 crore to facilitate early completion of the work,” informed Dr Acharya.

Five-point Formula for Rural Development

“A five-point formula has been devised scientifically with the view of all round rural development,” stressed Dr Acharya.

“Housing sites, electricity, drinking water supply, and better roads will be provided in rural villages. Human resources will be given a fillip by stressing on the educational and occupational skills among rural artisans and residents. Agriculture will get a boost by conserving livestock, soil, and water bodies. The BJP-led state administration aims to empower rural women through various welfare schemes,” explained
Dr Acharya. Local villagers’ committees will be formed to sustain local culture and traditions for posterity which will strive to preserve the distinct rural culture and traditions.

Assurances

The confusions over BPL and APL cards will be resolved while the poorest of the poor will be provided food grains on subsidized rates.

Primary Health Centres (PHCs) will be set up in every constituency, while there are plans to upgrade the community health centers with 30 bedded hospitals. The rural families will be covered under Vajpayee’s
Arogya Shree, Yashaswini Yojana, and other projects.

The number of ambulances will be increased and vacancies to posts of doctors in various state-run hospitals will be filled. Mobile hospitals will be introduced for every constituency, free education will be
provided to the rural girl students up to degree with the objective of achieving total literacy in the state within two-and-a-half years. A high school will be set up in every village with a population of over 3,000 and a degree college in a village with a population of over 5,000.

In an attempt to provide modern education, reforms will be made in the curriculum of both Anganawadi and primary school. A school building in every village, a vocational guidance center in zilla panchayat, will be set up for the benefit of rural students; state level training for rural students aspiring for higher education will be provided by the state.

Pandit Deenadayal Upadyaya Grammen University will be set up to facilitate employment opportunities to rural youth, which will further improve the rural development.

MLA Raghupati Bhat, district BJP president Udaykumar Shetty, Mysore Tobacco Development Board chairman B N Shankar Poojary, town councillor Kiran Kumar, former town councilor Gujjady Prabhakar
Nayak, veteran BJP leader Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, and district Mahila Morcha chief secretary Shymala Kundar were present on the occasion.
