Mangalore, Dec 17: The first ever Kannada convention organized by Lions Club Kadri Hills cultivated a new sense of literary feelings for all as Town Hall was jam packed with the a large gathering, on Friday, December17.
Satirist H Dundiraj, the president of the event was welcomed to the venue through a grand procession at 8.45 am. In his presidential speech he expressed his happiness to preside over the historic convention and said that Dakshina Kannada is increasingly witnessing many literary works as social unions here are doing their best to boost the ethos and language of the region.
Stressing the need for novel concept in Kannada literature, he said that comedy as a genre is gaining popularity these days.
P Jayaram Bhat of Karnataka Bank and Manohar Prasad, bureau chief of Udayavani, the chief guests on the occasion, emphasized the usage of Kannada language in day- to- day life.
Lions district governor J Krishnananda Rao released special issue ‘Simha Ninanda’ on the occasion. Nine achievers were honoured marking nine years of celebration. Book exhibition is also being organized as part of the convention.
The main objective of the convention was to inculcate literary sense among students and people at par. As many as 1,200 people were enthralled by the speeches given by the dignitaries.
Dharmastala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade inaugurated the convention. Mangala Naik, deputy director, Kannada and Culture Department inaugurated the cultural programmes. Committee working president N T Raja, secretary Arehole Sadashiva Rao and Philip Pereira among others were present.
