Madikeri: Convoy Meets With Accident – Speaker Escapes Unhurt

Madikeri, Dec 16: After an escort vehicle that was part of state assembly speaker’ K G Bopaiah’s convoy, met with an accident at Basavanalli, four kms away from Kushalnagar in Kodagu district on Mysore Road, a sub-inspector of police lost his life. Monnappa (55), sub-inspector, died on the spot, while head constable, Perlakoti Somanna, constable, Vasanth, and driver, Yogesh, suffered grievous injuries in the accident. The accident occurred when the escort jeep in which these people were seated, hit a stationary timber lorry that was parked by the roadside.

Reportedly, the jeep driver swerved his vehicle to the left, to avoid hitting an oncoming motor bike. The injured were rushed to a hospital in Mysore, where they are being treated. Bopaiah later went to the hospital and met the injured persons.

MLA, Appachchu Ranjan, Kodagu superintendent of police, Manjunath Annigeri, and other officials rushed the spot. They also visited the bereaved family and shared their grief.
