Bangalore: Infosys Land Acquisition in Kairangala Gets HC Nod

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Dec 16: The High Court has given its stamp of approval to the notification issued by Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), acquiring 311 acres of land near Kairangala in Bantwal taluk in Dakshina Kannada district.

Leo D’Souza, a resident of Kairangala, had filed a writ petition in the High Court, seeking quashing of the land acquisition process set into motion by KIADB, to set up a campus of Infosys Technologies Ltd there. He had also requested to denotify this land. Justice Shylendra Kumar, who heard the petitioners and defendants, gave the green signal to KIADB.

Leo D’Souza had earlier approached Dakshina Kannada District Land Disputes Appellate Authority, seeking denotification of lands standing in survey Nos 112/6, a, b, c, and 115/A. The authority had dismissed his petition, citing the reason that the land had been acquired for public purposes.

Land will be snatched from poor farmers and they will be given a pittance with which they may not afford to get anything. Why cant the KIADB give 1.5 times the prevailing market rate for such acquisitions especially when the benificiary is a hugh corporation who can well afford to buy land. Meanwhile shareholders of companies like infosys will get extra assets that will boost up the price of their shares. Why should a poor farmer sacrifice his livelehood for the shareholders of Infosys.

Tell me does Infosys need such a big campus?. What are their acheivements that have benifited the common man. Writing and maintaining code for commercial applications is not a creative job. Infosys has only survived because wages in India were cheap than US and Europe and now this advantage is also lost and surely countries like vietnam, Indonesia china will take over.

It is high time that successful and financially stable companies like INFOSYS buy their own land rather than depending on government agencies to acquire it for them!
