Udupi, Dec 15: “Television viewing has been the bane of today’s society. Television programmes have been destroying mental peace of the people, and inflicting irreparable damage to Indian culture, art and literature. The fact that an initiative to groom children into Yakshagana artistes is a development that is kindling hope for our culture,” said Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji of Admar Mutt here on Tuesday December 14.
He was delivering benedictory address at the inaugural of ‘Kishora Yaksha Sambhrama’ programme being held at the Rajagan of the Srikrishna Mutt here from December 14 to 30. The programme is being presented by Yakshashikshana Trust under the aegis of Paryaya Srikrishna Mutt, Shirur Mutt and Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy.
Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji of Paryaya Shirur Mutt, who inaugurated the programme, recollected the encouragement provided by the Mutt to Yakshagana art form since long. He welcomed the efforts being made by the concerned to keep our culture alive by imparting Yakshagana art to children.
Ambalpady temple trustee, Dr Ni B Vijaya Ballal, Kediyoor Hotel partner, Bhuvanendra Kediyoor, Shirur Mutt Diwan, Latavya Acharya, Yakshagana Kalaranga president, Tallur Shivaram Shetty and others were present.
