A bus and a tempo were involved with the accident, and the tempo driver, Hussain from Mulky, survived with minor injuries. Ravi, a native of Kadur, who was travelling in the tempo, died.

The tempo, which had brought a load of tender coconuts from Chikmagalur district, hit the rear side of the bus that was coming to a stop to pick up passengers. The bus was moving towards the city from Kinnigoly.

Ravi, who was sitting by the side of the tempo driver, was gripped tightly among the engine parts which jutted into the space he was sitting in, due to the impact of the collision. He was removed after an effort that lasted for about 30 minutes, but he had breathed his last by then.
