Kundapur, Dec 13: The situation in and around the town, which had vitiated after miscreants threw soda bottles and stones at a bike rally moving to Kody from here on Sunday December 12, eased in the evening, after the senior police officers presided over a peace meet at Rakeshwari auditorium near the police station.
Addressing the peace meet, Pawar said that the incidents which occurred on Sunday did not behove of a civilized society. He said that the Samajotsava will be allowed to be held on Monday, but that permission would not be given for the procession. He warned that the organizers would be held entirely responsible for untoward incidents if any, which may occur as a result of the meeting.
In the above attack, 12 people including Suresh Putran, Babu, Avinash Rai, Girish Ampar, Sandeep Devadiga, and Santosh, were injured. They were admitted into a private hospital in the town. In a retaliatory attack, crowds threw stones at four shops in the town. Two shops suffered maximum damages. A motor bike owned by a hotellier, which was parked near Basrur diversion, was torched. In Gangolly, a shop near the post office came under the attack of a crowd, which then damaged two cars parked near the road. Furniture in the shop was broken and thrown to the road in the incident.
Udupi district superintendent of police (SP), Pravin Madhukar Pawar, additional SP, Venkateshappa, assistant SP, Ramnivas Sapat, and other officers rushed to the spot and oversaw the security arrangements. Additional contingents of Karnataka State Reserve Police were deployed in Kundapur, Gangolly and Kody. These contingents are under the direct control local circle inspector, Madan Gaonkar.
The policemen have taken 11 persons from Kundapur and three from Gangolly into custody in this connection.
Hindu Samajotsava is being held at Nehru Maidan here on Monday December 13 under the aegis of Hanuman Shakti Jagaran Abhiyana Samiti. ‘Srirama Taraka Yajna’, procession, and religious programme to be led by Sri Vikhyatananda Swamiji will beheld on this occasion. Karnataka provincial convenor of Dharma Jagaran Vedike Bangalore will deliver the keynote address, a release by the said Samiti stated.
