New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) The International Cricket Council (ICC) says it has taken the necessary steps to prevent match-fixing during next year's World Cup.

ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat told reporters here Thursdday that the world body has the system in place to prevent match-fixing. ICC is not taking any chances after three Pakistani cricketers - Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer - were found to be allegedly involved in spot-fixing during the Test series in England earlier this year.

"We have taken necessary steps to check match-fixing. We have now more people in the fold to keep a check on these matters. We are in touch with the authorities and are taking stock of the situation," said Lorgat.

The South African also said that the ICC is taking all necessary steps to ensure security during matches.

Queried whether there has been a review of security arrangements in the wake of Tuesday's bomb blast in Varanasi, Lorgat said: "These things are a fact of life. But we have a system in place to take care of it. We have a detail plan and a backup as well. Security will be foolproof."
