Bantwal: Kannada Scholar Dr K Kushalappa Gowda Bags ‘Nirpaje Award’

Bantwal, Dec 7: Dr K Kushalappa Gowda, Kannada scholar, researcher and litterateur, has been selected for the ‘Nirpaje Award–2010’ instituted by Nirpaje Bheema Bhat Pratistan of Kanyana village, near here, stated a press release issued by Pratishtan honorary president Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala.

Dr Gowda is a resident of Kodi village near Peraje in Sullia, Madikeri taluk, Kodagu district. He did his post graduation from Madras University and Diploma in Linguistics, M Lit, and Ph D, from Annamalai University.

He served as the head of department of Kannada at Madras University and also as correspondent of Madras University’s Oriental Research Institute. Dr Gowda has been to Manchester for research and presented papers on Kannada in linguistic science, besides touring Germany and Switzerland.

He has done linguistic research on Kannada stone carvings (tablets) dating back to 1000 AD to 1400 AD by traveling across Dakshina Kannada, Uttar Kannada, and Kodagu districts.

He has published 12 books in both Kannada and English besides a book on Kannada grammar study.

Dr Gowda has previously bagged the Kannada Sahitya Academy Award, gold medal from Jayendra Saraswati Swami of Kanchi Kama Koti Mutt, Mulia Timmappayya Memorial Award, and Alva's Nudisiri Award amongst others.
