Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Dec 6: After a pitched battle ensued between two groups of cricketers, who were playing at Gandhi Maidan in Malpe on Sunday December 5, three of them were injured, one of them grievously. The person with grave injuries has been identified as Prashant Amin (30), son of Krishnappa Suvarna, residing at Malpe Vadabhandeshwara.

After the game of cricket, tussle reportedly arose over remarks made by a few players about present- day politics.

A complaint was lodged later in Malpe police station against six persons including local municipal councillor, Yashpal Suvarna, for launching murderous assault and posing death threats to the above youth. Reportedly, the gang dragged the youth to a lodge near the play ground and beat him up with iron rod and wooden pieces, injuring his head, chest and legs.

Injured Prashant was provided first aid at the government hospital here before being rushed to Manipal Hospital. The complaint alleges that Yashpal Suvarna had used the occasion to settle old political scores.
