Bagalkot, Jan 2: It is alleged that non-veg food was served at St Paul’s School of Ilakal town of the district during Christmas celebration. The schools was ordered to be closed by the zonal education officer. However, it is learnt that the education department has put a stay on the order of zonal education officer.
Zonal education officer, in his letter written to the administrative board of the school said, “It is brought to my notice that non-veg food was served in your school during Christmas celebration. Your behaviour has embarrassed the education department as well as the general public. You should not open the school till further notice.”
The order of the zonal education officer was brought to the notice of the education department. It is said that the zonal education officer did not inform the deputy commissioner nor the education department higher authorities before sending out order to close the school. Education department said that it is not possible to close the school just because it served non-veg food during celebration of Christmas at school. Hence, the order was withdrawn by the education department.
Recently, there was vehement opposition in north Karnataka for serving even eggs during midday meals by the government. Right wing organizations also held demonstrations against serving eggs in schools. They also accused the school management of converting the students to Christianity.
