Mangalore, Dec 4: Health & Family Welfare Services, Dakshina Kannada & UNICEF organized stakeholders consultation on Infant Death Review System in RAPCC Hall, Govt. Wenlock Hospital Mangalore on Saturday December 4.

Subodh Yadav, deputy commissioner, presided.

Speaking on the occasion he said that role of private facilities is very essential in reducing IMR. Though Dakshina Kannada district has a very low infant mortality rate compared to northern districts of Karnataka, that has to be reduced further. The district has succeeded in controlling the IMR below 10 %, wherein northern districts it has reached to 50 %,” he said. He hoped that it will be reduced to 5 % by next year.

P Shivasankar, chief executive officer, zilla panchayat, Prof S Shivananda, director, Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, Bangalore, Prof B S Baliga, head of the department, paediatrics, KMC, Mangalore and Dr Sanjeev Upadhyaya, health and nutrition, specialist, UNICEF, Hyderabad were the chief guests.

Dr O R Srirangappa, district health and family welfare officer, DK, was present.
