Bengaluru, Dec 26: Amid fears of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus that prompted the state government to impose night curfew during New Year celebrations, Karnataka on Sunday December 26 continued to maintain a fairly stead rate in the number of cases, with the state reporting 348 new infections.
As per the bulletin released by the state health department, the active cases in the state stand at 7,418. Among the districts, Bengaluru Urban registered the highest number of single-day cases with 248 new infections, while Kodagu reported 18 cases, and Tumakuru and Uttara Kannada 11 each.
Only three deaths due to coronavirus were reported in the state on Sunday, among which two were from Bengaluru Urban. With this, the toll so far stands at 38,312.
The state recorded 198 discharges from hospitals, taking the total discharges so far to 29,58,828.
So far, Karnataka has seen 30,04,587 positive cases since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
The positivity rate for the day stands at 0.47%, while the case fatality rate for the day is 0.86%.
A total of 1,793 passengers were screened at airports in the state on Sunday, out of which 785 have arrived from high risk countries as designated by the Indian government.
As many as 8,46,21,581 vaccination doses have been administered so far.
