Bengaluru, Dec 25: Compared to other metros in the country, Bengaluru has the highest number of active coronavirus active cases. The city has 5,866 active cases and these patients are under the observation and care of hospitals and families. For a week, the city has also been registering the highest daily addition of new corona cases.
As against average of 160 new infections registered in November, the new daily average this month is 210. Active cases are now about 6,000 in the city. This figure is many times more than the infection found in other cities. There is an alarming increase in the average daily cases which are around 140 in Delhi, 80 in Telangana and 150 in Chennai. The city, in comparison, averages over 210 to 240 cases every day. Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai and Pune are the only other cities which have surpassed Bengaluru in new daily average cases.
However, as per the war room statistics here, only 23 among the above infected persons are in hospitals now. 18 of them are in oxygen beds and three in intensive care units. In the state, the city accounts for 70 percent of new cases detected. Most of these cases are reported from the outskirts of the city like Electronics City, Bellandur, Whitefield and Varthur. Health officials opine that this is so because many techies who are located here have contacts with other states.
