Mangaluru, Dec 23: The 2021 Kavita Trust Mathias Family Poetry Award is announced for poet R Ramanath from Goa. This award consisting of Rs 25,000 cash, memento and a citation will be conferred on R. Ramanath during the 16th edition of Kavita Fest, organized by Kavita Trust on January 9, 2022 to be held at Vishwa Konkani Kendra here.
Hailing from Ponda, Goa, Ramanath was born in the year 1956. After the completion of his ITI and ATI education in Electronics, he went into Government service and currently retired.
Malab Rangmaanchi (1989), Nisonn (2013) and Visthav (2015) are his collections of Konkani poetry while Darvaje: Butki Aani Unch (1994) are his published collection of Marathi poetry. His poems are regularly published in 'Jaag', 'Bimb' monthly and 'Bhangarbhuim' daily and other periodicals.
Ramanath has various prestigious awards like Kala Academy Literary Award, Bimb Publications Award, Konkani Academy Goa Literary Award, Gomanth Vidyanikethan Award, Sohorobanath Ambiye Award, Konkani Kala Sahitya Kendra, Curchorem Award, and Bakibab Borkar Award from Bori Development Trust.
He has presented his poems in National Poetry Sessions of All India Radio. Participated in Indian Literary Conferences organized by Sahitya Academy. Recited his poems in the Kavita Fest Poetry session in the year 2016. Presented his poems in the multilingual poetry session at Dakshinayan Rashtriya Parishad. His songs and poems are popularized by the All India Radio, Panaji Station. His collection of Haiku is expected to be released soon.
Considered as one of the most prestigious in Konkani Poetry world, Kavita Trust Mathias Family Poetry Award is sponsored by Joseph Mathias Kuppepadadu, managing director of Merit Freight Systems Dubai. So far 13 poets from Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Mumbai regions are conferred with this award and Ramanath will be 14th recipient of the elite list.
Out of 11 nominations received for the Kavita Trust award this year, the trust has selected Ramanath among the names recommended by the award committee.
