Panaji: Minister for ports urges to handover Aguada jail to tourism corporation

Panaji, Dec 20: Michael Lobo, minister for ports alleged that there is corruption in the handing over of Aguada jail and fort to a private party.

Talking to reporters Lobo said that a proposal was given by a private party for the possession and operation of Fort Aguada jail complex which is now developed into a museum. It also has performance area and gallery plus café.

Lobo says that the private party is offering a sum of Rs one crore per year to the government. However, he said, the government can earn Rs one crore per month through gate collection. When the issue came up in the cabinet meeting Lobo opposed it and so to the CM.

The MLA said that the complex has to be handed over to the tourism department in order to manage all activities there.
