Chitradurga: Five Including Four of Family Perish in Car-bus Collision

Chitradurga, Nov 27: In an accident that occurred on state highway 19 between Bidar and Srirangapatna that passes through the district on Friday November 26 morning, five persons were killed on the spot. The accident occurred between a car and a private bus near Pooja Dabha in Challakere.

Yallaiah (70), Jayalakshmi (32), Suresh (39), and Gururaj (45), who belong to a single family, and car driver, Shankar (25) from Malavalli in Mandya district, lost their lives in the accident.

The family, which settled down in Mysore for business a few years back, had started on a visit to Siruguppa from Mysore on Thursday midnight. At around 4.30 am on Friday, the car hit a private bus that was moving towards Bangalore from Bidar. Father, two sons and a daughter lost their lives in the accident. It is learnt that Suresh is survived by wife and two daughters, while Jayalakshmi has left behind her husband and a son.

Additional superintendent of police, Shivaram Reddy, deputy superintendent of police, Hanumantaraya, circle police inspector, Vasudev, police sub inspector, Sangamesh Palabavi, and other police personnel rushed to the spot and took up relief operations. As the car was mangled beyond recognition, extricating the bodies proved to be a difficult task. 

A case was registered in Challakere police station.
