Udupi, Nov 26: A mother, who was suffering from chronic ailments, fed poison to her son and consumed it herself on Wednesday November 24. The incident occurred at Padubidri. While the son died on Thursday, the mother has been battling for life in a hospital.

Manorama (35), wife of Narasimha, who is a fisherman by profession and living near the seashore in Padubidri, was suffering from prolonged sickness. As the family almost always faced financial crisis, she decided to end her life. After taking her son, Charan, to the local Nagabana on Wednesday evening, she fed him poison before consuming it herself. In the meantime, she made a missed call by using her mobile, to a local doctor. When the doctor called her back, she did not receive the call. Growing suspicious, he informed about the incident to locals.

When the locals called the mobile, Charan, son of Manorama, received the call and told them what had happened. They then searched for the two, and after finding them out, admitted them to a hospital. As their condition was serious, both were shifted to Manipal Hospital later. Charan breathed his last in the hospital, while Manorama’s condition continues to be critical.

A report in this connection was filed in Padubidri police station.
