Chamarajanagar, Nov 26: Former state deputy Chief Minister and leader of the opposition in the assembly, Siddaramaiah, urged the state government not to alienate Srikrishna Mutt in Udupi from the muzrai department. He was addressing the gathering after taking part in a function organized on the occasion of the renovation of Sri Manteswami temple and consecration of Lord Siddhi Ganapati and Goddess Parvati in Kollegal in the district on Thursday November 25.
“Lord Krishna had born in a backward community. He is now being claimed as the presiding deity of Udupi mutt. How far is this claim justifiable and acceptable?” he questioned.
Siddaramaiah alleged that politics has come to play even in temples and gods in the recent past, and claimed that the Supreme Court had, in the past, directed that none of the temples should be accessible to a single mutt or class of people. He said that a conspiracy is being hatched with the connivance of the state government, to hand over Srikrishna temple in Udupi back to the mutt, in clear violation of the directives of the apex court.
Informing that a state-wide protest and agitation about this action of the government is being undertaken against this move, he asserted that the gods should always be available to people from all the communities without any distinction, and without being aligned to a single mutt or class.
Hanur MLA, R Narendra, Gunlupet MLA, H S Mahadevaprasad, and several other dignitaries had taken part in the function.
