Mangaluru, Dec 14: Regarding the assault incident at Adyar Padavu on December 10, five persons have been arrested and produced to court.
The five arrested are identified as Ganesh (24), resident of Kapettu site, Bondantila village, Chetan Kumar (21) from Bantukatta, Padu, Bondantila village, Keertiraj (23), Kattinja site, Padu, Bondantila, Suveeth (20), Rangapade, Neermarga, and Pareekshit (21) residing near Padu post office, Bondatila village.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “The accused were known to Riaz. The accused and the victim had clashes earlier on past issues.
“Riaz has cases against him in five different police stations in which three cases are under Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act and other two cases.
“Based on the evidence, we have filed a case at east police station under Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act.
“Riaz used to supply women for prostitution from Mandya, Hassan and other districts. The accused alleged that Riaz used to supply inter faith women. As there is an angle of prostitution, we will hold an in-depth probe and arrest accused involved in it,” he said.
It may be recalled, Mohammed Riaz (40), resident of Adyar Padavu in Mangaluru taluk was going in his Maruti Ritz car from Mallur to his home at Adyar Padavu at around 7.30 pm on December 10 when about seven to eight strangers who blocked his path by placing a motorbike and another vehicle across the road, formed illegal assembly and smashed the car's headlight and bumper with cricket bat and iron rod. Then Riaz was pulled out of the car after which he was repeatedly hit with bat, rod and beer bottles, as a result of which he suffered serious injuries to his head and right eye.
On the basis of a complaint filed by Abdul Rehman, younger brother of Riaz, a case under different sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered in Mangaluru rural police station.
On December 11, the investigating officer along with the complainant, Abdul Rehman, reached the spot of the crime where the Ritz car bearing No. KA19 MG1174 referred above was found. An inquest was conducted in the presence of witnesses. The car was found damaged and glass pieces of the front headlight were recovered. Under the front seat of the car, a pair of ladies footwear was found which was also recorded and taken into possession.
Over derogatory comments posted on Gen Bipin Rawat’s death, he said that the posts were from some fake IDs and it was not possible to trace. “Two authentic Facebook accounts have been traced. We will detain the users for further investigation,” said the police commissioner.
