Mangalore, Nov 24: Former union minister, Janardan Poojary, accused a few Swamijis of harbouring corruption. He said that these Swamijis have laid bare their true nature, by supporting the corruptive ways of the state Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday November 23, Poojary resented the action of these Swamijis in continuing to support, even after coming to know details of the scandals and scams he has been involved with, and the CM himself admitting his guilt and returning land allotted to his family members.
“The society in general, has high regard for Pejavar Swamiji. But the Swamiji’s insistence on the corruption charges to be proved before the CM can be punished, is regrettable. Does he not have the common sense that if allowed to rule the state, Yeddyurappa will destroy evidences against him?” he questioned.
Poojary felt that following in the footsteps of many other leaders, Yeddyurappa should have resigned immediately after allegations of large scale corruption were levelled against him, and extended cooperation to the investigations. “Why is the Swamiji, who is held in high esteem, limits his expression of views on regional and communal basis? Why did he not insist that allegations should be proved, before Chauhan, Kalmadi and Raja resigned from their respective posts? Is Yeddyurappa the sole Lingayat leader in BJP? Why not Shettar, a Lingayat, Dr Acharya, or Suresh Kumar can become CM?” he questioned. He said that the Swamiji has been compromising his elevated status by trying to protect Yeddyurappa, who has looted hundreds of acres of government land. He also advised the BJP to make an honest person the state CM, and then get him elected from a constituency, if the party does not have any honest legislators at present.
He compared the BJP to a pumpkin, the inside of which is rotten. He also charged Yeddyurappa of behaving as if he is the heart and hub of the BJP, and slighting even national leaders of the party like Advani, Sushma, Jaitley, Gadkari, and others. He charged Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of practicing duality in giving advice of morality and ethics to others and keeping quiet when it comes to the BJP.
He admitted, that in bringing out scams of the government, the media has ranked first, JDS has stood second, while the Congress has been placed at a dismal third spot in the state.
