Udupi, Dec 11: District in-charge minister V Sunil Kumar on Saturday December 11 directed officials to achieve 90% coverage of the second dose of vaccines for all above 18 years by December end to effectively contain the spread of the third wave of Covid-19.
He was speaking at court hall of deputy commissioner’s office in Rajathadari in a review meeting regarding controlling the pandemic and progress of vaccination drive in the district.
He said, "Already, the district has achieved 95%vaccination of the first dose. Identify those people who are eligible for the second dose of vaccination and those who have not received the second dose in spite of their time having crossed and vaccinate them. Senior officers should visit the places where people refuse to get vaccinated and convince them to get vaccinated. Everyone should work to complete 90% coverage of the second dose of vaccines by December end.”
He also directed to hold more number of Covid tests in government and private hostels and residential schools.
"If positive cases are found, take measures to contain the spread," he said.
He also directed the officials to check medical equipment donated by the donors and the government. The officials should gather information about beds available in the private hospitals, the number of beds that need to be increased, and availability of oxygen, ventilators, and other basic facilities, he said.
He also asked the international passengers coming from abroad to be tested as per the protocol given by the government and said that everyone should take all types of precautionary measures.
Deputy commissioner M Kurma Rao said, "Under the 'Mane Manege Lasika Mitra' programme health workers are visiting door-to-door to administer vaccines. When people object to getting vaccinated, officers themselves are visiting such places and convincing them to get vaccinated. Every day more than 4,000 Covid tests are being conducted. The positivity rate of the district is 0.16%.The active cases in the district are 72. As many as 66 are under home isolation and 6 infected are in hospital. The district administration is strictly following all the guidelines issued by the government to contain the spread of the virus."
MLA Lalaji Mendon, ZP CEO Dr Naveen Bhat, SP Vishnuvardhan, ADC Balakrishna, Kundapur AC Raju, DHO Dr Nagabushan Udupa, Covid nodal officer Dr Prashanth Bhat and others were present.
