Asian Games Wrestling: Manoj Kumar to Fight for Bronze


 

Guangzhou, Nov 22 (IANS) India wrestler Manoj Kumar will fight for bronze after losing to Taleb Nematpour of Iran 0-3 in the semi-finals of the greco-roman 84 kg category at the Asian Games here Monday.

Manoj, silver medallist at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, could not score a single point in three rounds against his Iranian opponent at the Huagong Gymnasium.

The Indian, however, will get the opportunity to make up for the loss in the bronze-medal playoff later in the day.

Earlier, Manoj defeated Syrian Nezar Oudeh 3-0 on his way to the last four.

In the pre-quarterfinals, he blanked Ali Awarke with identical scoreline.

Sanjay and Anil Kumar, the other Indian grapplers in the fray Monday, bowed out of the competition.

Sanjay was beaten by Ylvas Esenov of Kyrghystan 0-3 in the greco-roman 74 kg in the pre-quarterfinals while Anil lost to Esenov's countryman Azamat Erkimbaev 0-3 in the greco-roman 96 kg in another round of 16 contest.
