Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Nov 22: Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, informed at a press conference convened in Suratkal on Sunday November 21, that a proposal to set up a separate railway division in the city has been mooted in the Lok Sabha in view of the step motherly treatment being meted out to Karnataka coast  by Palakkad division of the department. He said that the railways have failed to implement several people-friendly programmes in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district.

Kateel also informed that the railway minister and prime minister too were met in this connection, and a case for giving division status to Mangalore has been stressed.

About the despicable state of the road from Suratkal to MRPL, the MP said that a meeting of officials including the deputy commissioner of the district and officials of MRPL and city corporations will be convened soon to finalize details about concreting of this stretch of the road. “The widening work of national highway between Talapady and Kundapur is in progress, and a proposal to convert the road between B C Road to Hassan into a four-lane highway, has been submited. This work involves a layout of Rs 4,000 crore. The Chief Minister will be prevailed upon to release Rs 2,000 crore for this project, to ensure that it gets a beginning soon,” he explained.

He discounted the allegations of land scam as an imaginary concept floated by former Chief Minister, Kumaraswamy. He felt that there will not be any leadership change in the state level for the present, adding that the party is being prepared to face the coming zilla and taluk panchayat elections.

Palakkad division has hardly 500km rail lines which is the bare minimum needed. Hence, taking Mangalore out from Palakkad division may not be allowed by Railway ministry/board.

Instead Kerala, Karnataka, Goa & Maharashtra join together and focus may be directed to double & electrify the Konkan line from Mangalore to Roha/Panvel thereby more faster trains possible.
