Mangalore, Nov 22: The ruling party has betrayed the trust of the people, said State Human Rights Commission chairman S R Nayak.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada chapters of the “Mahatma Gandhi Souharda Vedike” here on Sunday November 21. He termed the political situation in the state as mockery of the electoral process as some of the representatives had been involved in the abuse of power for their personal gain, he observed.

Commenting on the land scam, he said politicians of the ruling party are behaving like land grabbers, while noting that the same state government has not fulfilled the promise to build 63,000 houses for those affected by floods.

Nayak felt that the time has come when Parliament should further tighten the fibres of the anti-defection law to ensure sanity and trust in the rule of law to see that every elected representative respects the rules of electoral law and democratic discipline and does not tamper with the people's mandate.”

Wishing that there be an immediate end to the disturbing political situation, he called on people assert their mandate.

Mr. Nayak did not keep the trust of the people either. Let him name one good work he has done as SHRC to protect Human Rights. He is influenced by politicians as well as corporates. This is a face saving act on his part. He is a coward commissioner. As SHRC party politics is out of bound for him hence his comments speak clearly for him being biased.
