Mangalore, Nov 21: The Billava community has given selfless politicians, which is a role model to the nation, said Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary.
He was addressing the Billava members in gram panchayats across the state, who were felicitated at the Gokarnanatha temple premises under the joint auspices of Rashtriya Billavara Mahamandala and Sri
Gokarnanatha Kshetra Kudroli here on Sunday November 21. He further expressed his resentment over the fact that the community had forgotten its political leaders.
Poojary urged people to elect honest representatives in the next polls and refrain from electing corrupt time and again. He also called upon the GP members to serve for the people's overall development and
advised to treat corruption as enemy.
Belthangady MLA Vasant Bangera called on all the GP members to follow Narayana Guru's teachings, “Progress through education and build strength through organization.
Rashtriya Billavara Mahamandala president Jaya C Suvarna. MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary and former MP Vinaya Kumar Sorake among others were present.
In all 1,234 candidates of Billava community, hailing from six districts of the state won the polls to GPs, most of whom participated in the programme.
