Mangalore, Nov 20: Two more dialysis units were added to the existing dialysis units of Father Muller Medical College Hospital.

The new machines were blessed by the hospital administrator Fr Richard Coelho.

Dr Prashanth K, Nephrologist said that the patients are increasing and we need to take care to curb the disease instead of increasing the number of dialysis. He called upon that there should be research and innovation to prevent the disease.

The administrator, Fr Richard Coelho welcomed the gathering. Dr G Shankar officially handed over the unit to Father Muller Medical College Hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Shankar said that he intends to donate two more machines to Father Muller for the benefit of the poor.

Fr Patrick Rodrigues in his address expressed gratitude to the donor. He assured of more concession to the poor patients.

Dr Manjunath delivered the vote of thanks. Fr Vincent Saldanha, assistant administrator, nursing superintendent, Sr Aileen Mathias among others were present.

Father Muller Medical College Hospital Nephrology department was established in the year 2001 and has well equipped dialysis units. Initially started with 2 units and gradually increased the number of units, today it has 14 dialysis units including one CRRT.

Dr G Shanker of Shanker Family Trust Regd (Udupi) has earlier donated one machine and now he has donated another machine. The Muslim Jamayathullah Foundation has donated one machine. The hospital has a well established Nephrology department under the leadership of Dr Prashanth Kumar K who joined Father Muller Medical College Hospital in 2003 along with the well trained nursing personnel.

The Dialysis unit functions daily round the clock in 3 shifts.
