Karkala: Tempo Tumbles – Woman Loses Life

Karkala, Nov 20: After a tempo in which pilgrims were travelling fell on its side after hitting a stone pillar erected by the roadside, a women sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. The incident occurred on Friday November 19 at Mallar Ghat in Mala village in the taluk.

The victim has been identified as Lakshmidevi (35), a resident of Ningenahalli in Madhugiri taluk, Tumkur district. The tourists had begun their journey from their native place on November 19. After visiting Sringeri, the tempo was moving towards Dharmasthala, when tragedy struck.

Reportedly, the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating as steep bend, as a result of which the vehicle hit a pole and tumbled down. All the seven other tourists suffered minor injuries, and were admitted to a hospital. The vehicle driver decamped from the scene.

A case has been registered in the rural police station here, in this connection.
