Mangaluru, Dec 2: Former Karnataka chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, who has dropped broad hints about extending support to the BJP in the legislative council election, has said that a decision will be taken after party supremo, H D Deve Gowda, returns from Delhi.
"Yediyurappa has publicly requested to extend support to the BJP in constituencies where we have not put up our candidates. But the Congress has been saying that they do not want to have any understanding with the JD(S) and that they are totally averse to the idea. We cannot approach people who do not want to have anything to do with us. Therefore, we will soon decide on the request made by Yediyurappa for support," he stated.
Kumaraswamy spoke to media persons after holding consultation with the voters of all the local bodies in the assembly constituencies of Ramanagara district at his farm house at Bidadi on Wednesday December 1. He said that his party is deep-rooted in some pockets where it does not have the potential to win on its own. He however, added that his party has the power to decide who can be made victorious.
It may be recalled that JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda, had said at Delhi on Tuesday that Yediyurappa and Kumaraswamy will decide about the legislative council electoral agreement.
Kumaraswamy said that the result of the council elections will instil confidence in the party workers. "Our aim is to win 123 seats in the assembly and we will frame programmes accordingly," he said. Karnataka chief minister, Basavaraj Bommai, has already said that H D Kumaraswamy and Yediyurappa will hold discussions and arrive at a decision on the need to strike an understanding for the council poll.
Kumaraswamy said that his party has fielded candidates in only six constituencies in the state and expresssed the confidence that all of them will be victorious.
