Mangalore, Nov 19: The intensity of rains that used to lash Dakshina Kannada district with precision since the last some weeks, relented on Thursday November 18. At the same time, Udupi district received heavy rains coupled with thunder and lightning on Thursday night.
Sullia taluk in general, and Subrahmanya in particular, where the rainfall had been high, received very less rains on Thursday. Uppinangady, Kabaka and a few other places in Puttur taluk got some rains in the afternoon. Bantwal, Beltangady and Mangalore taluks basked in sunny weather, although overcast skies and lightning were experienced in a few regions in the evening.
Three members of the family of Ramesh Sanil from Ambady in Katpady in Udupi district, who suffered shocks due to lightning on Thursday, recovered some time later. Chief priest of Kundanguli Lord Panchalingeshwara temple, P S Shivaram (65) and three of his family members, were injured in the lightning, while their pet dog died. Electric meter, wiring and electronic items were damaged. Lightning also inflicted damage to wiring and electronic equipments in various places. Vittal subdivision of Mescom said that 11 transformers in various places within its jurisdiction were burnt down due to lightning, while power lines, equipments etc., were damaged, as a result of which, power supply to several area remains crippled.
