Udupi, Nov 30: Udupi District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA) conducted a day-long health check up camp for journalists in collaboration with Manipal Kasturba Hospital and Indian Medical Association (IMA) Udupi unit at IMA Bhavan here on Tuesday November 30.
Dr K Vinayak Shenoy, president, Indian Medical Association Udupi inaugurated the programme.
In his address, he said, "Physicians will maintain mental and physical stability of humans and media will protect social health. These two are 24/7 service providing professions. Media has played an important role in the development of the country."
Another guest Dr Abdul Razak, cardiologist, KMC, Manipal said, “The fat content blocks the blood streams and it causes heart attacks. So we need to figure it out as early as possible. No one should ignore this problem thinking it is a gastritis issue. We need to consult the doctors. A timely cardiac test will help to prevent heart attacks."
Rajesh Shetty, president of UDWJA presided over the programme.
The guests of the occasion, Manjunath, district information department officer, Dr Ganapathi Heggade, general secretary, IMA Udupi Karavali, Sachin Karanth, chief manager, marketing division, KMC Manipal and Subhaschandra Vagle, convener, Udupi Pathrika Bhavan were present.
The health check-up camp included general medicine, heart, skin, ENT, bone, blood pressure, diabetes and ECG tests. More than 90 journalists from the district participated in the camp.
Nazeer Polya, general secretary, UDWJA welcomed the gathering and Umesh Marpalli, treasurer, proposed the vote of thanks. Pallavi Santhosh compered the programme.
