Mangalore, Nov 18: The students of Derik's Chess School (DCS) participated in the recent National Chess Championships and brought laurels to state and city with their stupendous performances.
In the National championship held at Chinchwad, Pune from November 10 to 14 organized by Pimpri Chinchwad Mahanagar Association on behalf of Chess Association of Maharashtra under the aegis of Chess Association of India, DCS talent Arjun Adappa scored 6 points in 8 rounds to secure third place.
He won 5 games, 2 draws and lost one game. By virtue of this performance, he has been selected to participate in the international event representing CAI.
Arjun Adappa is a 6th student at Lourdes Central School, here and is a son of Ramakrishna and Vijaya Adappa.
Another DCS talent, Dhrikshu Vasanth scored 5.5 points in the same category and was placed 6th. Dhrikshu Vasanth is also a 6th std student at Lourdes Central School and is a son of Kiran Vasanth and Manisha Vasanth.
In the National School Games Chess Championship held at Goa from November 10 to 14 under the aegis of National School Game Fedearation, Derik's Chess School students represented the state in various categories and won medals. In the under- 17 girls category, Vanessa D'Souza scored all wins to help the Karnataka Under- 17 girls team to clinch Silver medal. She also won the individual board prize.
Pangal Gopalakrishna Nayak won the Silver Medal representing Karnataka under- 14 Boys team. Andria D'Souza won the bronze medal representing Karnataka under- 14 Girls team. Nihal Manjunath won the bronze medal in the under -19 Boys team.
Vanessa D'Souza is a std 10 student at St Agnes Girls’ High School, her sister Andria D'Souza is studying in St Agnes English Primary School. Vanessa and Andria are daughters of Victor D'Souza and Avitha D’Souza.
Pangal Gopalakrishna Nayak is a 7th std student of Canara Urwa High School and is a son of Devdas Nayak and Gayathri Nayak. Nihal Manjunath is a 1st PUC student at St Aloysius P U College and is a son of Dr Manjunath Shetty and Dr Veena Manjunath.
