Mangalore, Nov 17: Various places located in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received heavy rains coupled with thunder and lightning on the night of Tuesday November 16. The city, Suratkal, most places in Bantwal, Sullia and Puttur taluks, received heavy rains along with speeding winds, thunder and lightning. The rains however, receded, as the night progressed.
B C Road, Vamadapadavu, Punjalakatte, Farangipet, Vittal, Mani etc., too reported heavy rains. Due to lightning and winds, power and telephone services were disrupted. Rains were particularly heavy in these places.
On Tuesday too, lightning inflicted damages to electrical wiring of several houses, and the houses of Parari Moidin Kunhi and Attijal Krishnappa Poojary from Perabe village developed cracks too. Hundreds of areca nut and banana trees crashed to the ground because of high wind velocity. After lightning struck Kadambu government higher primary school in Vittal Padnoor village on Monday evening, the wiring system was destroyed, and two students remaine unconscious for some time, disturbed by the sound the lightning made, its headmaster said.
A release from the meteorological department said that Karnataka coast and a few places in the state’s hinterlands are expected to receive normal rainfall during the next 24 hours.
