Mangalore: Workshop Stresses on Reponsibilities of Gram Panchayat Members

Mangalore, Nov 13:
A legal awareness workshop for the elected representatives of the gram panchayats of the district was organised under the aegis of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat and Dakshina Kannada Legal Service Authority at Townhall here on Saturday November 13.

High Court judge Justice H N Nagamohandas inaugurated the workshop. In his address he stressed on the role of gram panchayat members in shaping India's success as a democratic nation.

Pointing out about a number of challenges such as farming crisis, economic bankruptcy, farmers’ suicides being reported from rural places he urged the members of gram panchayats to address these issues without fail.

A book on the role and responsibilities of GP members, titled “Grama Rajya-Mahatma Gandhijiyavara Kalpane” and authored by Nagamohandas was released on the occassion by G S Narayanaswamy, secretary, department of rural development and Panchayat Raj.
 
State information commissioner Dr H N Krishna, deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav, commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation KN Vijayprakash, president of DK zilla panchayat Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, CEO of zilla panchayat P Shivashankar Rao, president of Mangalore Bar Council SP Chengappa and others were present.
