Moodbidri, Nov 11: Angered by the delay in executing second phase of the demolition of unauthorozed buildings from the sides of national highway 13 in the town, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Subodh Yadav, took the municipal chief officer here to task on Wednesday November 10.
After holding a meeting with officials of different departments at the municipal building, he visited the places where the encroachment clearance programme has been taken up. The DC was anguished at the fact that the work of clearing unauthorized buildings had not been completed properly, and that debris and other waste lying by the roadsides, was not shifted from there. When the chief officer, A V Ganesh, tried to explain that the operation was planned to be conducted after the DC’s visit, the DC told him to continue to do his work without waiting for others, and asked him to take up the work immediately from Thursday November 11 onwards. Assistant commissioner, Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, who was present, expressed his dissatisfaction at the fact that new stalls were allowed to operate from the spot from where encroachments had been cleared.
The DC also visited the ring road in Marpady, which has been completely damaged by the movement of trucks carrying crushed stone. He asked the municipal officials to hold a meeting with the owners of crushers and get the road repaired by them as agreed upon earlier. If the talks fails, the district administration will act against the crusher owners, he said.
Standing committee president, Shivaraj Rai, vice president, Ramani, tahsildar, Muralidhar, national highways department executive engineer, Krishne Gowda, and Mangalore Urban Development Authority executive engineer, Sridhar, were present.
