Udupi, Nov 11: Congress leader and managing trustee of Havanje temple, Govind Shetty (73), died in the early hours on Wednesday, due to injuries sustained in an accident.
Shetty had been seriously injured in an accident that occurred near Santekatte here on Tuesday November 9 evening. His two-wheeler was hit by a bus while it was being driven out of a petrol bunk to the national highway. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Udupi, and then moved to Manipal for advanced treatment. However, without responding to treatments, he breathed his last in the wee hours on Wednesday.
He is survived by wife, a son, and two daughters.
Shetty, a Congress leader, had been elected as Havanje gram panchayat member twice with the support of that party. Since the last 15 years, he had, in the capacity of managing trustee, played a major in the thorough renovation of Havanje temple.
