Dubai, Nov 10 (IANS) The International Cricket Council (ICC) Wednesday offered help to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to find out what prompted wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider to flee to England from Dubai.

In a statement, ICC said it was in communication with PCB and it would provide assistance to unravel the reasons Haider decided to leave the Pakistan team ahead of the final ODI against South Africa in Dubai.

ICC has also offered Haider help if he needs.

"ICC is willing to provide assistance to PCB and the player. We understand his plight but we can only help if he is willing to engage with us," ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said in a statement.

A day after he went missing ahead of Pakistan's one-day game against South Africa in Dubai, Haider decided to retire from international cricket.

Haider fled from Dubai to London Monday fearing for his life. He said he received death threats last week and confirmed he had sought asylum in Britain.

The player was questioned by the UK Border Agency after arriving at Heathrow airport without a return ticket.
