Mangalore: City to Host Four- day International Film Fest from Nov 14

Mangalore, Nov 9: The Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy of Bangalore and the Bellimandala and Belli Saakshi units of DK district will organize a 4-day International Film Festival at Don Bosco Hall on Sunday Nov 14 at 10 am.

Dr Nityananda P Shetty of Belli Sakshi informed presspersons here on Monday November 8 that the film festival will be held in several cities such as Bangalore, Shimoga, Belgaum, Dharwad and Bijapur besides Mangalore. The film festival in city will be inaugurated by deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav. Dr D K Chowta, president of the organizing committee will preside, he added.

Furher speaking he said that, total of 16 international world classics will be screened (four films per day) and they will be projected in DVD format through powerful LCD projectors. The classics that will be screened at the fest include Belli Moda, Tied Hands, Turtles Can Fly, Spring Summer Fall Winter, Train in the Tenth Floor, Jumping Over the Puddle Again, Yesterday, The Chorus, City Lights, The Return, Pasanga, The President's Barber and White Ballon among others.

Interested can get delegate passes for Rs 100 at selected places such as Mahesh Pre-university College, Ganapathi Junior College, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Dr H M Somashekarappa of Mangalore University, Karnataka Polytechnic, Govinda Dasa College Suratkal, Ambit Computers and Gokul Market. Students will be given a 50 percent concession.

 A seminar will also be held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here on November 14 at 4:30 pm as part of the festival. Dr Willy R D’Silva, visiting professor of Coimbatore University and social scientist, and Abhaya Simha, the budding director of Kannnada industry from the city will be the resource persons and will present papers on the subject of cinema.

Prakash Shenoy of Belli Mandala and Ivan D’Silva, the director of the committee among others were present.
