Mangalore, Nov 8: A public meeting was held at Adarsha Yuvaka Mandal premises in Ganeshpura near Suratkal on Sunday November 7, to protest against the decision of the health department to suspend the 24-hour medical care service, which was provided at Katipalla primary health centre (PHC) till now.
The meeting decided to hold protest against the above move, and to submit a memorandum to Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar. The people present at the meeting said that the families living in and around Katipalla were able to get 24-hour healthcare at the said PHC, where maternity ward also functioned round the clock. The decision of the health department to suddenly stop this service has deprived the people, particularly the low income families, of the facility to get healthcare services near their homes, the participants opined.
Several local people, who were present at the meeting, also expressed unhappiness at the fact that the local corporator, Basheer, abstained from the meeting.
The meeting formed a committee to chalk out future programmes against the above decision of the government, with Koosappa Shettigar as honorary president, and Dharmendra as president.
Various dignitaries and local leaders were present at the meeting.
