Udupi: District Police Arrest Two Bag Snatchers

Udupi, Nov 6: The special squad of superintendent of police Pravin Madhukar Pawar have once again proved their flair for detection of crime by arresting two bag snatchers on Friday November 5.

The arrested youth are identified as Mohammed Ashish (20 years), son of Mohammed Syed Honnala as well as Samiulla (22 years), son of Dawood Saheb Honnala, both residents of Haradi Village. These offenders earn their livelihood by making cotton bed, but have confessed that to have a luxurious life they chose to commit the crime. Police have recovered cash, mobile phones and the motorcycle from the offenders. The offenders will be produced before the jurisdictional court.

For the past 20 days, two youth riding on a motorcycle without number plate made the female students walking in an isolated area their target to snatch bags containing cash, mobile phones, credit cards and combo cards among others. Three such crimes were reported athe the Manipal Police station area between October 15 and 30, 2010.

Udupi deputy SP Jayanth V Shetty heading the SP’s special squad formed seven groups with special task to carry out the operation to nab the culprits. On a tip-off the team picked up the youth who confessed their crimes committed in the past 20 days.

The special squard headed by Udupi deputy SP Jayanth V Shetty consisting of Ravi Chandra Fayaz, Sudhesh, Sudheer, Santhosh, Thaniya, Ramu Hegde, Krishna Prasad, Yogindranath, Nagesh, Varadaraj, Sathish, Lokesh, Vikram Baretto assisted by H D Kulakarni, police inspector, Manipal and Madhu T S, police sub-inspector, Manipal.

It may be recalled here that SP’s special squad had arrested a three member chain snatchers team about 4 months ago and 17 cases of chain snatching cases were detected. All three offenders are cooling their heels in Hiriadka Jail.  

 SP has announce the reward of Rs 5,000 to the special squad.

    They look like donkeys with hood on their face. Disgraceful act by these youths. People should work hard to earn a decent living. Illegal earnings will always have negative effects. Let them count the iron bars in the police station. Misguided youths.
