Bengaluru, Nov 1: Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said the State Government is committed to the development of the entire Karnataka and eliminating regional imbalances and asserted that the main objective of the New Education Policy is encouraging regional languages like Kannada.
Participating in the 66th Rajyothsava Celebrations organized by the Ramanagara district administration, of which he is the in-charge minister, on Monday, he said engineering and technical education teaching has already been started in Kannada as per the NEP being implemented by the State Government for the first time in the entire country.
The minister said the State Government was seriously thinking of starting teaching in polytecchnics in Kannada and syllabus and text books are being prepared in Kannada and English.
Dr Narayan said the government has made learning Kannada compulsory in higher education and pointed out modern technology must be used for the development of Kannada. All the tools and expertise in information technology must be effectively used to promote Kannada through the digital medium, he said.
The minister said a government tool room is being set up at Chikkakalya of Magadi taluk at a cost of Rs 60 crore to ensure the comprehensive development of the Ramanagara district. In addition, a 2,000 acre industrial estate is also being established in the district for the industrialization of the district, he said.
The Ramanagara district hospital will be converted into a super specialty hospital along with steps to utilize the 4,000 acres of land acquired for establishing the Bidadi township project.
Dr Narayan said the Veerapur and Banandur villages which gave birth to Siddaganga Mutt pontiff Sri Shivakumara Swamy and Adichunchanagiri Mutt pontiff Sri Balagangadharanath Swamy have been allotted Rs 25 crore. The government has also sanctioned funds for the Magadi traditional and histrorical centre of Bengaluru founder Kempegowda.
