Mangalore, Nov 4: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), Subodh Yadav, advised the deputy director of geology and mines department to get help from the local people to effectively put an end to illegal transportation of sand in the district.
He was speaking at a meeting convened in the court hall of his office, for addressing problems that are being faced in stopping illegal sand transportation in the district. He also advised them to explain to those residing in the border areas of the state, about the motive behind this ban, and to hold interactions with local leaders.
Towards spreading awareness, he advised them to distribute pamphlets giving full information on all the ssues concerned. He also asked the officials to draw plans to further strengthen the law concerned in all aspects and to fix targets.
He wanted the patrolling and inspections at check posts on the border roads to be intensified further, and to beef up vigilance on the border area roads. He reiterated the need for the officials to evince more interest in seeking cooperation and support of the local panchayats, leaders and the people in these activities.
He said that steps will be taken to conduct a survey of the areas where sand mining is going on again, and also to strictly enforce law against illegal sand transportation.
