Udupi: Baby Killed, Five Critically Injured in Accident near Katpady

Udupi, Nov 3: A four-month-old baby died on the spot and at least five others were critically injured in a road mishap which occurred near Kallapu bridge on NH 17, near Katpady, on the evening of Wednesday November 3.
They were on their way from Kasargod to Mookambika temple, Kollur.
The injured have been identified as the infant’s mother Rajani, father Ashok, their son Mithun, grandmother Katyayini, and driver Shaji. The Ambassador car they were travelling in was smashed between an oncoming tempo which rammed into it and a truck that was on its rear.
They were taking the baby to Kollur temple for the naming ceremony when the ghastly accident occurred.
Tempo driver Ashfaque and cleaner Khalil have also been gravely injured in the mishap.
Traffic was hindered for sometime before being restored by Kaup police with assistance from the locals. Kaup police have registered a case in this regard.
