Mangaluru, Oct 26: For the last two weeks, coronavirus infection cases in Dakshina Kannada have consistently remained below the 50 mark. Most of the infected people have recovered. The active cases in the district, which stood at 2,200 in September first week, have dwindled to just 286.
Positivity rate in the district was around five percent in August and it came down to 0.41 percent as on October 24. Encouraged by this trend, physical classes for standards 1 to 5 have also commenced.
In the district, every day, an average of 7,000 to 8,000 samples are being tested. In the case of infected people, primary and secondary contacts are being found out and tested. As per the health department data, only 30 percent are being treated in hospitals and 70 percent are recovering at their homes. Even the death rate has plunged now.
The recovery rate in the district is over 98 percent. Stress is laid on conducting more tests in areas where infections are detected. Schools and colleges have been told to strictly follow the coronavirus guidelines.
The target for vaccination in the district is 18 lac. As at October 22, 15.07 lac people have been vaccinated with the first dose. As many as 8.05 lac people have got two doses. Vaccination centres had been installed in temples during the annual festivals. People made good use of this facility.
