Kalaburagi, Oct 19: "In the recently held executive meeting of the Congress party, a resolution was passed, asking Rahul Gandhi to take over the mantle of All India Congress Committee (AICC). All of us have pleaded with him to accept this responsibility immediately," said former union minister and Congress leader, Mallikarjun Kharge.
Speaking to media persons on Monday October 18, Kharge stated that the meeting also decided that along with taking over as the leadership of the Congress, Rahul should be recognized as the president of AICC. "After we urged him, Rahul has assured that he will think about it. We also passed resolutions on oil price hike, harmful agricultural acts, unemployment increase, demand for the dismissal of union minister of state for home, Ajai Kumar Mishra, relating to the Lakhimpur incident among others," he narrated.
Kharge assured that the Congress will not face any adverse effects as a result of the JD(S) fielding minority candidates in Hangal and Sindagi bypolls. He said it would be a misconception to think that minority candidates of other parties will lessen Congress votes. He said that the people will bless the Congress in both these constituencies as the party runs on secular principles.
