Udupi: Temple Belongings Worth Rs 70,000 Looted

Udupi, Oct 29: Belongings approximately worth Rs 70,000 was stolen from Bannanje Mahalingeshwara temple here.


The incident came to light on Friday October 29 morning when the priests unlocked the temple door. The culprits had made their entry through the back door of the temple.

The stolen things included 1kg-235 grams silver naga idol, 235 grams silver eyes of shiva, approximately Rs 10,000 form the offering hundi, among others.

Town sub inspector Maruti Nayak, police superintendent of police Praveen Madhukar Pawar visited the temple and carried out the investigations. Similar incidents of robbery have taken place in the temple in the past.
