Mangaluru, Oct 15: ‘Trishul Deeksha’ of Bajrang Dal (BD) activists was held at the office of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) at Kadri in the city during Ayudha Puja that was held on Thursday October 14. City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that he has given order to investigate the matter.
Speaking to the scribes, he said, “It has come to my knowledge that VHP and BD have conducted ‘Trishul Deeksha’ during the Ayudha Puja held by them at various places including the city. On investigation it has come to light that this is done every year during Ayudha Puja. I have instructed the police officers to verify whether it is against the law.”
The Ayudha Puja programme was held under the leadership of VHP Mangaluru division secretary Sharan Pumpwell and BD leader Raghu Sakleshpura. The puja was held in Udupi and Puttur, it is learnt.
After the puja, around 150 BD activists were given Trishul and made to vow to make use of weapon.
Photos of the same have gone viral on social media and also invited criticism. This comes in the midst of controversial statement given by chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on moral policing.
