Mangalore: Rains, Thunder and Lightning for Second Successive Day

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Oct 28: While the city and surrounding regions were enveloped in thick clouds since 4 pm on Wednesday October, no rains were experienced. At the same time, several parts of the coast were battered by heavy rains coupled with thunder and lightning, on Wednesday morning and evening. With this, the problems of farmers, whose harvests are facing a bleak future, have been compounded.

In Kombar village in Puttur taluk, Dayanand, his wife, Sudhamani, and child, Umesh, suffered electric shocks after lightning hit their cattle shed.  Traffic snarls, severed telephone connections, and power failures caused by falling tree branches were the order of the day, particularly in hilly terrains. Sullia, Puttur, Kadaba, Dharmasthala, etc., received good rains coupled with lightning on Wednesday evening. Udupi, Brahmavar, Hebri, Karkala, Kundapur etc., also accounted for heavy rains with thunder and lightning.

The meteorological department has predicted normal rainfall at a few places in the state’s coast and hinterlands, till Friday morning.
