Bantwal, Oct 27: Two groups of the government first grade college students here clashed with each other in the college premises on Tuesday October 26. Reportedly, one of the groups assaulted members of another group on Tuesday afternoon, even as classes were in progress. Four students were injured in the ensuring clashes, vitiating the atmosphere in the college premises.
The injured have been identified as students’ union leader of the college, Madhava V S, and final year students of the college, Ashwath, Anil and Shylesh. Final year students of the college, Mohammed Shaffi, Razack, Ashfaq, Imran and Fahad are accused of launching the attack.
Mohammed Shaffi and his associates reportedly stopped Ashwath in the classroom, and started an argument with him relating to an earlier incident. It is learnt that Shaffi objected to the police complaint filed against him by a student, Guruprasad, relating to a recent fight involving the two, some days back. Following a heated exchange of words, Ashwath was assaulted. The others, who tried to help Ashwath, were also beaten up. College lecturers rushed to the spot upon learning about the incident. Local station house in-charge, Vivekanand, rushed the spot, along with other police personnel, and eased the situation.
The injured students have filed a complaint in the town police station against their assaulters. Ashwath and Madhava have been admitted into a hospital. Mohammed Shaffi and Imran have also got themselves admitted into a hospital. The other side has also registered a complaint.
College principal, Krishnappa Madiwala, has said that a meeting of students and their parents would be convened soon, in an attempt to find an amicable solution to the problem. He also said that a detailed report on the recent happenings would be sent to the department.
